The Buckeye City Council approved the formation of the 2024 Buckeye General Obligation Bond Exploratory Committee in December of 2023. From January to April, the Committee met regularly on Thursday evenings. The Committee discussed city finances, economic development, housing and learned about proposed projects that could be included in a bond package. The committee did determine to move forward with a bond election in November, which will have two bond questions, one for public safety and another for streets and transportation.

The GO bond committee consisted of 13 members that met most Thursdays. The committee was made up from Council appointed residents representing each City Council District, resident members at large and non-resident members (business owners). The Committee members included:

Bond Committee Timeline

• December, 2023
  • Buckeye City Council approved formation of the 2024 Buckeye GO Bond Committee
• January, 2024
  • The Bond Committee was tasked with determining if there is a need for a bond program and what the city’s priorities should be
• February and March, 2024
  • Several department directors presented to the Committee on the various needs of the city
  • To further assist in determining the needs and opinions of Buckeye residents, the committee reviewed the results of a two-week public survey. To ensure fair representation of the entire city, the survey consisted of 400 registered voters spread evenly throughout each district
• April, 2024
  • After deliberation, the Committee drafted their recommendations to the City Council
• May, 2024
  • On May 7, 2024, a Council Workshop detailing the recommendation was provided to Council, and ultimately approved on May 21, 2024
