Our Mission
To serve the public by providing a fair and impartial judicial process in a timely and efficient manner.
What the Court Handles
The Buckeye Municipal Court is responsible for the adjudication and disposition of all local code violations, criminal misdemeanor, criminal traffic and civil traffic cases that occur within the Buckeye limits. The court also handles order of protection and injunctions against harassment.
Our Judge
John Burkholder was appointed Presiding Judge of the Buckeye Municipal Court in April, 2021. Previously he served for over twenty-five years as a judge for the Glendale City Court. In addition to his normal case load during his tenure with Glendale he helped reorganize the court to improve case flow; updated forms and procedure; helped design and implement specialty courts; and train and mentor new judges, civil traffic hearing officers and pro tempore judges.
Prior to becoming a judge in 1995, he served for 4.5 years as a prosecutor for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office working in the vehicular crimes bureau handling manslaughter, aggravated assault, aggravated DUI, unlawful flight and leaving the scene of fatal accident cases. He eventually became Assistant Bureau Chief for the unit. Before joining the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, he spent a year in private practice. After graduating from law school, he taught international trade in China before returning to the United States to start his legal career.
He has a Doctorate in law from the University of Arizona, a Bachelor's in business administration and psychology from Grand Canyon University, and an Associate of Arts from Glendale Community College.
