We invite all community members, artists and non-artists alike, to share childhood artwork for a unique community exhibit. We'll showcase pieces from children, teens and adults side-by-side, creating a visual journey through the decades. Downtown Buckeye businesses will host these displays, transforming our city into a Walk Down Memory Lane.

The Buckeye Public Library System is a participant in the Act One Culture Pass program. Culture Passes provide free admission for two people at a participating arts and cultural institutions. Municipal public art programs in the West Valley and WESTMARC are excited to announce a unique opportunity for local artists to contribute to the vibrant cultural tapestry of our community. We are seeking talented artists across various disciplines to create temporary, site-specific art projects in a variety of locations throughout the West Valley. This initiative aims to foster a deeper connection between our cities, residents and the rich arts and culture scene flourishing in our region.

Municipal public art programs across six cities: Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Peoria, Surprise and Tolleson – are joining forces with WESTMARC, the Western Maricopa Coalition, to launch a vibrant new initiative called iHola! West Valley. This exciting partnership will bring a series of temporary, site-specific art installations created by local artists to various locations throughout the West Valley.

iHola! stands for, Highlighting Our Local Arts, and aims to connect West Valley cities and residents to arts and culture resources, spotlight the abundance of arts and culture activities and opportunities in this thriving region and provide mentorship for local artists to enter the field of public art. Once art is installed, the goal is to create a map of locations, paving the way for future bus tours. This allows residents to discover new art experiences and explore different aspects of the West Valley's artistic landscape.

A benefit of this collaboration for aspiring artists is that they will have the opportunity to receive mentorship and training, equipping them with the skills and experience needed to thrive in the field of public art. Participating cities can share resources, expertise and staff time, which is beneficial for all involved.

A Call to Artists

iHola! West Valley is now accepting applications from Arizona-based artists across various disciplines to create temporary, site-specific art projects in a variety of West Valley locations. Project Compensation: $10,000

A virtual workshop will be held on September 4, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. This workshop will involve an overview of tips and tricks to support applicants in applying to artist calls. It will also provide an overview of this specific project and application guidelines. Staff from participating cities will be available to answer questions.

Eligibility: Professional and emerging artists and artist teams in Arizona. Buckeye is seeking an artist to involve the community in creating a design for an indoor art installation at Coyote Library. The art piece can be a hanging 3D mobile which celebrates reading, a piece that represents the journey of reading or an homage to a great fiction book.

Buckeye is seeking Arizona artists to create a vibrant and engaging mural at the Sundance Recreation Center located at Sundance Crossings.

The project aims to transform the upper walls above the activity room entrances into captivating artwork that celebrates the center's diverse recreational programming. The theme for the mural is Recreation in Motion, reflecting the variety of activities offered at the Sundance Recreation Center.

Artists will transform the accordion-like upper wall, which is above the entrances to the activity spaces, into an engaging mural that could offer a change in perspective from different vantage points. Images of the accordion wall below.

Buckeye encourages all Arizona-based muralists to submit their proposals. Two finalists will each receive $1,000 for their design and community engagement. The final artist chosen by the Community Services Advisory Board will be awarded $8,500 to complete the mural project.

Scope of Work for Mural

Eight Arizona-based artists will be selected and awarded $1,200 each to design artwork for traffic control boxes, also known as traffic cabinets, located primarily along Yuma Road. The art should be centered around the theme of desert wildlife and landscapes at sunrise, sunset or nighttime.

Each selected artist will be compensated for their original design and community engagement, ensuring the project reflects local voices and talent. The artwork will be reproduced on vinyl and installed on the traffic boxes by the city.

Applications close on October 31, 2024. All Arizona-based 2D visual artists are encouraged to apply.
